Simon our pet Bearded Dragon
These are photos of Simon my Bearded Dragon, sadly we only had him for about a year. He was a really great pet and loved by us all. Most bearded dragons can live up to around ten years, we don't know how old Simon was as we got him from a good friend, who had rescued him from a family member after they bought Simon from a man at the pub with no history or details about him!!! (Not at all recommended!!!). Before we even got him he was struggling with a vitamin D deficiency, which is a common problem for a lot of lizards such as bearded dragons and it meant his back legs could barely move. We did everything we could to make him happy and healthy, gave him a great diet, he was a huge fan of a nice locust covered in vitamin powder, but also was partial to mealwords, crickets and a few bits of veg.
I would highly recommend a bearded dragon if you want a pet reptile, once they get used to being handled they become very friendly and would even snuggle up with our corn snake Rex, they never showed any aggression to each other and I would often lay on the sofa with them both sitting on my chest together.
He had a 4 foot long vivarium (a wooden box with glass doors on the front, for lizards, snakes and other reptiles) for his home and lots of places for him to hide in and explore. It also had a heat mat and lights to help him stay at the right temperature and also boost his vitamin D levels. You also need a thermostat to help control the heat as being much too cold or too hot can be deadly for bearded dragons.
I hope you enjoy seeing the photos of our bearded dragon, I do really miss him and would love to get another lizard one day.
