About the 2019 Hastings Steampunk Circus of Curiosities
On the 14th and 15th of September 2019, in the Sussex seaside town of Hastings (ok just over the border into the scary dimension known as St Leonards) something strange happened, well strange for most towns, but Hastings and St Leonards are well known for such weird and wonderful things! lol The event was the Steampunk Circus of Curiosities, organised by Power Events (Hi Linda and Gemma!) and held at the St. Leonards Showground in Magdalen Road. This was a new location for this year and was a pretty place for it.
I was kindly invited to come along and be one of the official photographers for the event. I was offered both days, but being disabled I struggle with two day events and so I picked the Sunday as there was a Steampunk fashion show that my daughter Joanne Thorpe and Aaron Kerr took part in as a Steampunk Joker and Harley cosplay, plus a dog show run by Tesa's Rescue that my partner Helen Tadhunter wanted to enter our two dogs Squid and Moominin, also in Steampunk cosplay costumes of course! :)
There was a stage area with live bands, my personal favourite out of the ones I heard was The Visitors, I admit I had never heard of them before that day, but I enjoyed their set.
There were stalls selling all kinds of strange items, some steampunk, some not, but all cool. One particularly strange and cool one was James and his Monsters, a prop maker specialising in monsters, he had some really great creations on show for people to buy!!! This was the second year I had attended, the 2018 one was just a one day event.
