Battle Cemetery in East Sussex
Not far from my home in Battle there is a very steep road called Marley Lane and about half way up it there is a little tiny turning that I bet lots of people walk or drive past without even noticing it! It was only after a year or so of living here that I noticed the sign saying that Battle cemetery is up that tiny road. Being a photographer I like looking around things like cemeteries, graveyards etc. but I still didn't bother as the road made it seem like it would be a little one that wasn't worth photographing. Eventually out of boredom I went up there and got a rather big shock, it's actually a pretty big and very pretty cemetery and is great for photography. East Sussex is such a beautiful area, with so many great places to explore, I feel very lucky to live in such an amazing part of the UK. None of my family are buried in this graveyard, most are buried or have had their ashes spread in places almost a hundred miles from here, so not easy to feel close to them, but going into the peace and quiet of Battle cemetery gives me the connection I need when I am missing family members who are no longer with us. If you ever come to Battle and are struggling with the crowds in the school holidays and need to escape somewhere then this is where I would recommend for you to go, it's a beautiful hidden secret!!!
